I don’t normally give WiiWare a lot of credit for having good games. Yeah, there are a few, but for the most part it’s just a place for companies to shovel out crap that makes retarded use of the Wii Remote or puzzle games we’ve all seen a million times before. Not to mention it’s hard to tell the good games from the crap because there aren’t any demos of anything. This, of course, isn’t the first time I’ve given WiiWare a much deserved lashing. But hit the jump to see me say very nice things. 🙂
But, there is a modern remake of one of my favorite classic games of all time. Excitebike. Check out the blurb from Nintendo’s site :
Prepare to face daredevil jumps, crazy obstacles, and other racers in the newest member of the venerable Excitebike franchise, exclusively available on the WiiWare service. Choose from multiple camera angles as you tilt your way to smooth landings using the motion-sensitive controls and compete in races around the world in four championship circuits. Better yet, use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to invite friends to a race, or if you’re feeling brave, take on anyone else looking for a match. Feel like tackling a challenge of your own design? Use the intuitive Track Editor to choose from the available obstacles and put together your dream course, then share your masterpiece with friends (and vice versa) to see whose creation skills reign supreme. After all, you know what they say about riding a bike—once you’ve learned how, you never forget…
And here’s a trailer from some people who look entirely too young to have known this game ever existed

It’s official. I want this game. I still play the original on my real NES all the time because it’s just THAT addictive. I finally plan on buying me some Wii points to play this game. I’ve had 500 sitting in there for months because there’s nothing else to get but the web browser. But there’s finally something that looks worth it. And if Nintendo gets anything right, it’s their remakes.
At least from the one I’ve played which is Punch-Out!!. I don’t care what anyone says, it’s a remake because it plays IDENTICAL to the old NES version when you’re not using the retarded motion controls.
