Now now now, I know that the majority of my posts are very hateful towards the given subject. That’s just how I am. Why write about anything that’s uplifting and good? Everyone does that. So if you want that, go to IGN or something. If you’re looking for that from me … I do write stuff like that, but it’s rare.
Now, I am not by any means slamming the Gran Turismo series of games. They are AMAZING games … on that note they’re not my type of games purely based on the fact that I don’t get into simulation racers. That’s just me, I grew up on the arcadey style racing games and that’s where it’s stuck for me. I’ll be the first to say flat out that games like Forza and the Gran Turismo games are amazing in their own rights.
I’m sticking with the big ones right now because they’re easy. Everybody who’s into that type of game who has a 360 is playing Forza. And those same people, for the most part, are probably REALLY looking forward to GT5 because the series has established itself over the years. Even the original two games for the Playstation 1 are still amazing games to play, and if you play them through emulation on the PC you can really get those old graphics looking great.
But let’s look at the reality here. Gran Turismo 5 has been in development for … what … 5 years? At a budget of 60 million dollars. I know there are TONS of fans of this series, and there are fans of this STYLE of game. But I read somewhere that Sony needs to sell more copies of that game than there are Nintendo Wii’s in EXISTENCE. I don’t think there are THAT many fans of this game or this genre to cover that, sadly. The Playstation 3, even though the userbase IS growing, just doesn’t quite have it. Even when the game sells systems (and you know it will) it’s going to take Sony FOREVER to get their money back for that game. IF they get their money back at all.
But hey, you’ve gotta hand it to them. They’re releasing this game. And it may be just the push the PS3 needs to REALLY get out there. Hell, I’m even thinking of picking up a PS3 … not for THIS particular game per say … it’s just something else to be able to play on from time to time.
Either way it goes, GT5 looks absolutely gorgeous, it’s coming from a major drive (no pun intended) in the simulation driving games and is one of the best games of it’s type out there. Period. Hell, I even want to play it and I don’t even like simulation based driving games. It’s going to be released, it’s going to sell systems and F*CKTONS of copies of this game … even if it takes them heaven knows HOW LONG to make that money back.
But let’s face it, Sony is used to losing money on their stuff by now. No matter how amazing it is.
