Jeri Ellsworth from Tilt5 shows us a new and exciting way of playing board games – with the power of Augmented Reality or AR for short.
From their Press Release:
Combining elements of video gaming and traditional tabletop gaming with augmented reality, Tilt Five takes gaming to a whole new
level. The glasses project onto a special retroreflective game board creating a holographic scene, with objects that come up out of the game board and drop into the game board with infinite depth.
“Showing the Tilt Five system at PAX West is pretty special for us,” said Jeri Ellsworth, CEO of Tilt
Five. “The technology behind our glasses began in the Seattle area, and we’re incredibly excited
to share all the hard work we’ve done with our fellow gamers there.”
Tilt Five is gearing up for a Kickstarter campaign in mid-September, and this will be one of the first times they’ve shown their new glasses in public. Attendees will have the opportunity to try out the glasses first-hand. A number of demos will be available, each showing the vast possibilities the Tilt Five augmented reality glasses bring to gaming.
Tilt Five is different from virtual reality, in that players can see everything around them while wearing the glasses. This makes the experience more social. Just like traditional board games, players can sit around a table together and see each other. The glasses also have stereo speakers and a microphone, so players can join in the fun even if they aren’t in the same location. Miniatures, and other tangibles such as playing cards, can also be used with Tilt Five, opening up a whole new way to play.
